Texas State announces faculty tenure and promotions

Forty-six faculty members at Texas State University-San Marcos have been promoted and 40 have been granted tenure in action taken by the Texas State University System Board of Regents.

The regents approved the promotion and tenure actions during their regular meeting held May 19-20 on the Texas State campus.

Promoted from associate professor to professor (with academic department in parentheses) were Steven Aragon (curriculum and instruction), Mary Cavitt (music), Jeffrey Davis (art and design), Patti Giuffre (sociology), Lucy Harney (modern languages), James McWilliams (history), Osvaldo Muniz (geography) and Kenneth Ward (political science).

Promoted from assistant professor to associate professor were Augustine Agwuele (anthropology), Jonathan Babcock (music), Vishag Badrinarayanan (marketing), Enrique Becerra (marketing), Gregory Lynn Crossett (political science), Nathan Currit (geography), Peter Dedek (family and consumer sciences), Maha Dharmasiri (biology), Jesse Gainer (curriculum and instruction), Washington Garcia (music), Kerrie Lewis Graham (anthropology), Reiko Graham (psychology), Michael Clay Green (biology), Qijun Gu (computer science), Michelle Hays (art and design), Jason Kwak (music), Vance Lesseig (finance and economics), Sergio Martinez (modern languages) and Francis Mendez (computer information systems and quantitative methods).

Also promoted from assistant professor to associate professor were Kenneth Moon (finance and economics), Douglas Morrish (agriculture), Angela Murphy (history), Raymond Niekamp (journalism and mass communication), Clara Novoa (engineering), Weston Hugh Nowlin (biology), Crystal Oberle (psychology), Michael O’Malley (counseling, leadership, adult education and school psychology), Octavio Pimentel (English), Jorge Yuri Porras (modern languages), Cindy Royal (journalism and mass communication), Susan Schwinning (biology), Jeremy Sierra (marketing), Chad Smith (sociology), Maria Alejandra Sorto (mathematics), Emily Summers (curriculum and instruction), Dan Tamir (computer science), Jitendra Tate (engineering) and Pinfan Zhu (English).
