University announces faculty development grants

Five Texas State University-San Marcos faculty members have been awarded $20,000 faculty development leave supplemental grants to assist in upcoming research initiatives.

Named to receive the grants for the 2011-2012 academic year were Rachell Booth, associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry; Christina Conlee, associate professor of anthropology; Dittmar Hahn, professor of biology; Rodney Rohde, Associate professor of clinical laboratory sciences; and Dhiraj Vattem, associate professor of family and consumer sciences.

This is the fourth year Texas State has offered the supplemental grants under its faculty development leave program. The grants are meant to assist faculty in their research efforts and may be used for travel and lodging, the purchase of equipment and materials, and as salary supplements.

Another 34 faculty members were approved for faculty development leaves during the upcoming academic year.

They are: Lori Assaf, associate professor of curriculum and instruction; Nathan Bond, associate professor of curriculum and instruction; Silvia Crixell, professor of family and consumer sciences; Frank De la Teja, professor of history; Sven Fuhrmann, associate professor of geography; Cynthia Gonzales, associate professor of music; Robert Gorman, professor of political science; Catherine Hawkins, professor of social work; Chang Ji, associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry; Sally Jones, associate professor of social work; and Matthew Juge associate professor of modern languages.

Also approved for faculty development leave were Thomas Keller, professor of mathematics; John Lasser, associate professor of counseling, leadership, adult education and school psychology; Ju Long, associate professor of computer information systems and quantitative methods; Debarun Majumdar, associate professor of sociology; Carole Martin, professor of modern languages; John McGee, professor of finance and economics; Rebecca Montgomery, associate professor of history; Tinker Murray, professor of health and human performance; Kay Nicols, associate professor of management; James Peterson, professor of geography; and Kristen Ploeger, associate professor of computer information systems and quantitative methods.

Also approved for faculty development leave were Richard Radcliffe, associate professor of curriculum and instruction; Rebecca Raphael, associate professor of philosophy; Randall Reid, professor of art and design; Anadelia Romo, associate professor of history; Jaymeen Shah, associate professor of computer information systems and quantitative methods; Vedaraman Sriraman, professor of engineering technology; Mary Ann Stutts, professor of marketing; Federico Subervi, professor of journalism and mass communication; Mark Todd, professor of art and design; Francis Walsh, associate professor of journalism and mass communication; Max Warshauer, professor of mathematics; and Ani Yazedjian, associate professor of family and consumer sciences.
