Texas State celebrates Earth Day with electronic waste collection event

Texas State University-San Marcos will celebrate Earth Day with the 3rd Annual RecycleNow Electronic Waste Collection Saturday, April 16.

The event will be held in the Bobcat Stadium parking lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Texas State is partnering with PSC Environmental Services for the third consecutive year on the event, which has collected and recycled over 40,000 pounds of electronics from the community. All net proceeds from this event support sustainability efforts on the campus and the international charity World Bicycle Relief.

“This is a great opportunity to promote the responsible recycling of end-of-life electronics for the residents of Hays County, the City of San Marcos as well as the campus community,” said Sue Bruning, PSC’s director of sustainability. “It is truly a collaborative effort between local sponsors from the community, staff and student volunteers from Texas State and PSC.”

Universal Recycling Technologies of Fort Worth is providing the recycling and transportation of the electronics. During the event a variety of electronics will be accepted for proper recycling at no charge to San Marcos residents, Texas State University students, faculty and staff. Accepted items are computers, cell phones, printers, scanners, TVs, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players and a variety of other electronic devices. Unacceptable items are appliances, microwaves and household hazardous waste. Texas State students, faculty and staff may bring personal items only. University-owned items must continue to be processed through the Central Receiving Warehouse.
