Texas State hosts 23rd Annual Communication Week

The Department of Communication Studies at Texas State University-San Marcos will host the 23rd Annual Communication Week Feb. 28-March 4 on campus.

All seminars and presentations are free and open to the public.

Highlights of the week include Distinguished Professor of Communication Studies Will Powers from Texas Christian University presenting “The Power of Learning Online About Communication: Using the Latest Technological Tools to Train, Teach and Be In Touch,” at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 28 in room GO2 of Centennial Hall.

“We have an especially exciting line up of speakers this year,” said Steven Beebe, chair of the department of communication studies. “We offer these presentations as a gift to the community to showcase the power and importance of communication.”

Vic Bazan, president and CEO of TPI International, retired FBI consultant and hostage negotiator, will speak 12:30 p.m. March 2 in room GO2 of Centennial Hall on “Negotiating for the Freedom of Kidnap Victims from Around the World.”

Nationally-recognized C. S. Lewis expert Andrew Lazo will discuss “C. S. Lewis: Rhetorician to the Skeptics” 12:30 p.m. March 3 in room GO2 of Centennial Hall.

The Communication Week convocation will feature Gary Kreps, chair and distinguished professor of communication at George Mason University, on the topic “A Mandate for Health Care Communication Scholarship” 3:30 p.m. March 3 in Centennial Hall, room GO2.
