Regents Chair Amato to keynote commencement

Charles Amato, chairman of the Texas State University System Board of Regents, will be the keynote speaker at one of three summer graduation ceremonies Friday, Aug. 12, at Texas State University-San Marcos.
Amato will address degree candidates at the ceremony to be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 12 in Strahan Coliseum. Candidates from the College of Applied Arts and the McCoy College of Business Administration will attend the 10 a.m. ceremony.
Degree candidates from the colleges of Education, Fine Arts and Communication, and Health Professions will attend the ceremony to be held at 2 p.m. in Strahan Coliseum.
Candidates from the College of Liberal Arts, the College of Science and the University College will attend the 6 p.m. ceremony, also in Strahan Coliseum.
Texas State President Denise Trauth will offer remarks at the 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. ceremonies.
Amato is the chairman and co-founder of SWBC, which advises financial institutions on how to manage risk and increase profitability. The company has more than 1,400 employees and now exceeds $1 billion per year in premiums and loans. He also owns two automobile dealerships, holds an interest in the San Antonio Spurs NBA franchise and is active in community service.
There are 1,500 candidates for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees this summer at Texas State.
