The Center for the Study of Latino Media & Markets (El Centro) at Texas State University-San Marcos will present the 2nd international documentary festival, “Puntos de Vista 2011,” on Thursday, April 7 in the LBJ Student Center.
“Puntos de Vista,” or Points of View in English, invites film and communication students from Latin America, Spain and the Caribbean to submit documentaries about environmental, religious and social issues. Six universities confirmed participation with 15 entries. Based on these entries and voting, six will be selected and shown during four film sessions.
“This is an encounter with our culture and reality,” said Sindy Chapa, festival organizing committee president, assistant professor and associate director of El Centro. “It’s a window that allows us to convey the strengths of our language, character and convictions to the rest of the world, as well as our concerns and demands.”
The documentaries, 15-20 minutes in length, will have English subtitles. Viewers may vote for their favorites online. Three awards, ranging from $2,000 to $500, will be presented.
