'The History Boys' explores adolescence, education

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Texas State University-San Marcos will present Alan Bennett’s drama “The History Boys” Oct. 27-30 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. at the PSH Foundation Studio Theatre on campus.

Directed by theatre graduate student Katie Knapek, “The History Boys” focuses on an unruly yet intelligent group of British boarding school boys who seek sex, sport and university education. The boys study under the guidance of an English teacher who aims to broaden their horizons in unorthodox ways and a history teacher who questions the nature of the boys’ schooling.

Intended for mature audiences, “The History Boys” has garnered a number of accolades, including the 2006 Tony Award for best play. A film adaptation of the play was released in the United States and Britain in 2006.
