The Staff Council at Texas State University-San Marcos is holding a food drive on campus through Aug. 10 to benefit the Hays County Food Bank.
The food bank shelves are normally the most empty this time each year as donations drop off during the summer months. This puts an additional burden on low income families--already stressed by the slow economy--who now have feed children who usually eat breakfast and lunch at school through the free and reduced lunch program. Up to 68 percent of students in the San Marcos CISD and 48 percent of Hays CISD students are eligible for this program.
Texas State staff members are invited to set up a donation drop box and contact Staff Council members for pick-up. Donations may also be delivered to Angelika Wahl, room 139 of the Evans Liberal Arts Building.
