Autism summer camp to address special needs children

Texas State University-San Marcos will host an Autism Summer Camp this July in an effort to address the lack of specially designed leisure and recreational summer programs to meet the needs of children with autism and their families in our community.

The 2010 Texas State Autism Summer Camp will feature three one-week sessions with a multi-activity program. It is a partnership among the Texas State Department of Health and Human Performance, the Clinic for Autism Research, Evaluation and Support, and San Marcos CISD. The camp is designed to provide children with autism access to quality summer camp experiences while being sensitive to each child’s unique abilities. The children will experience music, art, crafts, sensory, motor and many other fun-filled activities. The 2010 autism summer camp will be the first of its kind in the San Marcos community.

The camp will be held at Hernandez Elementary School at 333 Stagecoach Trail in San Marcos on the following dates:

Session I: July 12 – July 15 (Monday – Thursday), 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Session II: July 19 – July 22 (Monday – Thursday), 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Session III: July 26 – July 29 (Monday – Thursday), 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
