University announces faculty development grants

Five Texas State University-San Marcos faculty members have been awarded $20,000 faculty development leave supplemental grants to assist in upcoming research initiatives.
Named to receive the grants for the 2010-2011 academic year were Michael Forstner, professor of biology; Michael Huston, professor of biology; Donald Olson, professor of physics; Walter Rast, professor of biology; and Mary Tijerina, associate professor of social work.
This is the third year Texas State has offered the supplemental grants under its faculty development leave program. The grants are meant to assist faculty in their research efforts and may be used for travel and lodging, the purchase of equipment and materials, and as salary supplements.
Another 20 faculty members were approved for faculty development leaves during the upcoming academic year.
They are: Jennifer Battle, professor of curriculum and instruction; Elizabeth Blunk, associate professor of family and consumer sciences; Ann Brooks, professor of counseling, leadership, adult education and school psychology; Ann Burnette, associate professor of communication studies; David Butler, professor of geography; Janet Butler, associate professor of accounting; Ian Davidson, professor of music; Elizabeth Earhart, associate professor of anthropology; Charles Garofalo, professor of political science; and Linda Homeyer, professor of counseling, leadership, adult education and school psychology.
Also approved for faculty development leave were Ana Juarez, associate professor of anthropology; Rudy Kishan, professor of finance and economics; Susan Morrison, professor of English; Michelle Ney, professor of theatre and dance; Marilynn Olson, professor of English; Randall Osborne, professor of psychology; Willard Stouffer, professor of political science; Taewon Suh, associate professor of marketing; John Tiefenbacher, professor of geography; and Jose Trinidad, assistant professor of finance and economics.
