Men's lacrosse team wins conference championship

The Texas State Men’s Lacrosse team defeated the University of Texas on Sunday in the Lone Star Alliance Conference Championship game by a score of 12-10.  The victory propelled the Bobcats to their first ever conference championship and earned the squad an automatic bid to the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association’s National Tournament in Denver.

Texas State controlled the tempo of the game holding a three to four goal lead throughout the second half.  The Bobcats were led by senior attackman Matt Malcolm with four goals and one assist on the offensive end while senior goalie Asa Spain earned conference tournament MVP with his stellar play in cage, including 23 saves on the day.

“I am so proud of this team, especially our seniors.  Four years ago, these young men believed that Texas State Lacrosse would one day be conference champions, and I am so happy it happened during their tenure,” said Chris Park, head coach of Texas State.

The Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) is a national organization of non-NCAA, college lacrosse programs. The MCLA currently operates in the United States and Canada with 213 teams in two divisions, across 10 conferences.  The national tournament bracket of 16 teams will be released Sunday, May 2^, on www.mcla.us
