Kathleen Fite, professor of education at Texas State University-San marcos, has been selected to serve on the executive board of the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) and the advisory council for the prestigious Gesell Institute.
ACEI is a global community dedicated to promoting the optimal education and development of children in a changing world. It was started in 1892 and today has active members in 53 countries. Due to the history of ACEI and its location in the Washington, D.C., area, there is a close interest in education in the United States and participation in U. S.-based advocacy efforts.
Fite was named a Gesell Institute Visiting Scholar in the fall of 2009 to study the contributions made by Arnold Gesell (1888-1961) to the understanding of how children develop, grow and learn in the context of today’s academic pressures on young children. The institute, located on the Yale campus in New Haven, Conn., has invited Fite to serve on its advisory council and to participate in a national event in October in honor of the Gesell Institute’s 60th anniversary.
