'Becoming 21st Century Change Agents' focus of EdTech conference

The Educational Technology master's degree program in the College of Education at Texas State University-San Marcos will host the 2nd annual EdTech conference “Becoming 21st Century Change Agents” Saturday, April 24, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Education Building.

The event, intended primarily for educators from all academic disciplines and levels, will be free and open to the public.

The conference will feature a number of sessions and presentations focusing on the use of technology in teaching and learning. Scheduled presenters include K-12 teachers and professionals in corporate and nonprofit settings, all of whom have graduated from or are currently enrolled in the Educational Technology master’s program.

Liz Stephens, educational technology professor and director of the Office of Educator Preparation at Texas State, said that the goal of the event is “to offer an opportunity for sharing and learning about effective ways to use digital tools.”

Sessions will address various skills associated with the conference theme, “Becoming 21st Century Change Agents,” including:

•  thinking critically and making judgments about content
• solving complex, multidisciplinary, open-ended problems that all workers in every kind of workplace face
• creativity and entrepreneurial thinking
• communicating and collaborating with teams of people across cultural, geographic and language boundaries
• making innovative use of knowledge, information and opportunities to create new services, processes and products
• taking charge of financial, health and civic responsibilities and making wise choices.
