U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett will be the keynote speaker at Texas State University’s fourth annual Aquarena Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 24,  from noon to 6 p.m. at the Aquarena Center on the Texas State campus.

Other speakers will include State Rep. Patrick Rose, Hays County Judge Liz Sumter, San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz, Texas State Provost Perry Moore and River Systems Institute Executive Director Andrew Sansom.

The public is invited to visit more than 55 regional information booths on the shores of Spring Lake.  Several activities are planned that are designed to help citizens become better stewards of the Earth. Topics cover food, art, gardening, water, science, ecology, politics, transportation, recycling, energy and more.

The San Marcos Springs will be blessed in a multi-denominational ceremony, as a tradition of the Aquarena Earth Day Celebration.

Other recreational activities will include hiking in Spring Lake Hills greenspace and glass-bottom boat and kayak tours of Spring Lake. Ticket prices for boat and kayak tours are reduced for those who bring a non-perishable food donation for the Hays County Food Bank.

Several local musicians will perform, as well as a youth mariachi group and youth folklorico dancers. Snacks and drinks will be available from San Marcos businesses.

This free event is sponsored by the Hays County Commissioners Court, City of San Marcos, University Seminar at Texas State, Environmental Service Committee at Texas State, Texas State’s Department of Geography, the River Systems Institute, My Texas News, Tantra, 1836 Inc, Guadalupe Blanco River Authority and Texas Heat.
