AMA chapter excels at international collegiate conference

The American Marketing Association student chapter at Texas State University-San Marcos was recognized as a Superior Chapter at the 32st AMA International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans, La., April 8-11.

The Texas State chapter was recognized based on the submitted chapter plan and annual report. The reports are judged on professional development, communications, fundraising and community service. This honor acknowledges Texas State as tied for second place internationally.

More than 1,300 attendees participated in the conference, designed to provide an intensive marketing experience which included professional guest speakers, a career fair, and networking opportunities. The American Marketing Association is one of the largest professional associations for marketers and has more than 40,000 members worldwide in every area of marketing. There are more than 300 student AMA chapters from schools in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

In addition to the Superior Chapter honors, Texas State received 2nd place in the Collegiate Case Competition. Andrew Duffy, Samantha Spillman, Rebecca Schulz, Brittaney Korus, Matt Bridger, Kelly Wyatt, Ryan Loosier, Mary Paniagua and Felicia Bedgood were a part of the Case Team.

Texas State also received 3rd place in the website competition, which may be viewed at www.business.txstate.edu/ama; 1st and 3rd place in AMASavesLives video competition; and honorable mentions in both the UNICEF video competition and in the UNICEF Fundraiser Competition. The Texas State AMA chapter was recognized for having the 2nd place winner, Andrew Holiday and the nine other semi-finalists in the 30 Minutes with an Entrepreneurial Hero Competition.

Texas State students participated in several student-led sessions. Texas State AMA President Matt Bridger was a presenter in the session on “How to be an Effective Ambassador”; VP of Community Service, Jaci Johnson presented at the “Community Service Grant Tips” session to teach other chapters how to get a grant; and VP of Fundraising Cress Terrell presented “Fundraising Tips.”
