AITP chapter continues successful national streak

The Texas State University-San Marcos student chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals made another impressive showing at the AITP National Collegiate Conference, held March 25-28 in St. Louis.
Following up on a strong outing at the AITP regional competition in October, the Texas State chapter brought home a number of awards, including a second consecutive win for Association Outstanding Student Chapter of the Year, from the national event.
The chapter also garnered the Top Monkey Award for the highest level of overall conference support, with 20 student and faculty attendees competing in 41 events. Computer Information Systems lecturer Kevin Jetton won AITP Faculty Advisor of the Year.
AITP is a national organization composed of professionals, students, and volunteers in the field of information technology. The Texas State chapter of AITP participates in numerous events and community outreach programs, familiarizing members with the nature and functions of IT in the business world.
This year’s national conference hosted 488 total students representing 69 different universities. Texas State chapter members placed as follows:
In Systems Analysis and Design, the teams of Alex Castillo and Dotti Bolt, Erin Armstrong and Alan Harris, and Gene Ognibene and Doug Fogle received Honorable Mention.
Michael Gairo and James Thorne won third place in Network Design, Dotti Bolt and Andrew Johnson received Honorable Mention in Database Design, and Eric Ortega, Erin Armstrong, Alan Harris, and Alex Castillo received Honorable Mention in Application Development.
