Regents clear path for North Campus Housing Project

Regents of the Texas State University System have taken an important step toward the eventual construction of a 612-bed, approximately $50 million residence hall at Texas State University-San Marcos.

Meeting Thursday and Friday (Feb. 18 and 19) on the Texas State campus, the Regents approved adding the project to the system’s Capital Improvement Program, a measure that could clear the way for construction on the project to begin in the fall of 2010.

The new residence hall, currently called the North Campus Housing project, will encompass 189,450 square feet and will be located at the corner of Comanche Street and Sessom Drive. The Regents may be asked to approve design documents at their next regular meeting in May. The residence hall will open in 2012.

Other projects added to the TSUS Capital Improvements Program include the Academic Services Building North renovation ($985,000), The Department of Housing and Residential Life Office Building ($15.8 million), The Mitte Clean Room renovation ($1.1 million), the Lampasas Hall renovation ($1.7 million), the Multipurpose Educational Facility site and infrastructure improvements project ($2.2 million) and a rescue house and climbing tower for the Advance Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) program ($950,000).

The Texas State University System is the oldest multi-campus system in Texas and plays a critical role in the educational and economic development of the state. Its eight component institutions are Texas State University-San Marcos, Lamar University, Sam Houston State University, Sul Ross State University, Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College, Lamar Institute of Technology, Lamar State College-Orange and Lamar State College-Port Arthur.
