Texas State University-San Marcos men's and women's club soccer teams both qualified to compete in the 2009 NCCS Soccer National Championship, being held Nov. 19-21 in Phoenix, Ariz.
Both teams clinched the regional championship and national qualifying bid in their final matches of their respective regional tournaments, held Oct. 31-Nov. 1. These matches extended into overtime, where both Texas State club teams defeated their opponent in penalty kicks. Each team will compete amongst the top 24 teams in the country for the national champion title.
“I am very proud of both teams hard work and dedication this season,” said Stephanie Thompson, a sport club director at Texas State. “Both teams have proven their success this season both on and off the field, and I hope they will continue the dominance at the National Championship in Phoenix.”
The automatic bid for the women's 2009 NCCS Soccer National Championship was earned through a series of wins including its defeats of Texas Tech, Texas and Louisiana State’s women's club soccer teams.
The men's club soccer team faced and defeated club teams from Lamar, Houston and Baylor on its way to secure the bid to the 2009 NCCS Soccer National Championship.
