Dean Chahin named advisor to Minority Student Success Project

Jaime Chahin, Dean of the College of Applied Arts at Texas State University-San Marcos, has been named an advisor to the Wal Mart Minority Student Success Project by the Institute of Higher Education Policy in Washington, D.C.
 
The project will fund Hispanic Serving Institutions that have submitted proposals to address student success issues for first-generation students.  The first cohort of institutions from throughout the nation has been selected. Those institutions are refining their plans, which will be presented at a summer academy where they will work with other institutions that are participating in the project.  A second cohort will be selected in 2010.
 
Institutions selected are funded for three years by the Wal Mart Foundation. Institutional collaboration on issues related to first-generation students and the role of faculty and students is the focus of the project.  For more information on the project, visit www.ihep.org.
