Texas State hosts STEM professional development day

The Texas State University-San Marcos College of Science and the College of Education will host a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) development day for middle and high school teachers May 14 at the Supple Science Building on campus.
 
The event will provide area teachers with information about opportunities and outreach activities for students and teachers available at Texas State, and provide an opportunity for university faculty and secondary science teachers to network and begin the process for exploring future collaborative efforts and activities. It will further provide an opportunity for participants to share information about emerging scientific developments and research underway at Texas State and other research facilities.
 
Dana Garcia, professor of biology, said this is the first event of this kind hosted by Texas State with hopes of making it an annual occurrence.
 
"This is the first time we’ve organized this particular event," Garcia said.  "Its theme is science education and opportunities to enhance it through partnerships with Texas State University.  We are hoping to host a similar event focused on math education in the fall."
