‘Status of Latinos in America’ viewable online

C-SPAN aired “The Status of Latinos in America: Challenges and Opportunities,” April 7.

“The Status of Latinos in America” is a panel discussion recorded live during the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education national conference March 7 in San Antonio.

The panel discussion addresses four key issues impacting Latinos in the U.S.: Economic well being; education, health and electoral participation.  Interwoven in the discussion are gender, leadership and immigration issues.

Moderated by Henry Cisneros, former San Antonio Mayor and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under President Bill Clinton, the panel features Aida Alvarez, former director of the U.S. Small Business Administration; Lorraine Cortes-Vasquez, New York State Secretary of State; Arturo Madrid, Murchison Distinguished Professor of Humanities, Trinity University; Maria “Cuca” Robledo Montecel, president and CEO, Intercultural Development Research Association; Antonio R. “Tony” Sanchez, chairman of the board/CEO, Sanchez Oil and Gas Corporation; Richard Tapia, mathematics professor and Maxfield Oshman professor of engineering; Solomon “Sol” Trujillo, CEO, Telstra Corporation, Sydney, Australia; and Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO, ATT Mobility.
