Texas State University-San Marcos will be especially artistic March 10- April 7, thanks to an exhibit in Galleries 1 and 2 of the J.C. Mitte building.

The exhibit, entitled, “What Isn’t Is,” will feature the work of Alyson Fox, Mimi Kato and Misako Inaoka. The artists’ work focuses on identity issues and includes sculpture, drawings, paintings and photographs that creatively blur the lines between studio practices.

Inaoka will give a lecture about her work on March 10 at 11 a.m. and Fox will lecture on March 11 at 2 p.m. An opening reception for the exhibit will be held on March 10 from 5-7 p.m.

As an artist and clothing designer, Fox received her master’s degree from the University of Colorado and was a visual merchandiser for Anthropolgie, a clothing and décor retailer. She has been featured in Domino and O Magazine as well as the New York Times.

Kato, a photographer, received her master’s degree from the University of Texas-San Antonio. Her work has been shown in Ireland and in exhibits throughout the U.S., including the Federal Reserve Bank in Houston.

Inaoka, a sculptural artist, received her master’s degree from Mills College, Oakland, Calif. She is known for using a variety of natural and man-made materials to create her work, much of which has been inspired by her Japanese heritage. Her work has been featured in a variety of galleries from California to Italy.

This exhibit is sponsored by the Texas State Department of Art and Design. It is free of charge and open to the public. For more information, please contact Mary Mikel Stump at (512) 245-2664.
