Jill Pankey, a lecturer in the Department of Art and Design at Texas State University-San Marcos, has received two national awards from the Manhattan Arts International Gallery in New York and the Bancroft & Dillon gallery in Cohasset, Mass.

Manhattan Arts International awarded Pankey the Award of Excellence for her oil-on-canvas painting titled “Remembering.” The work was part of the 2008 Manhattan art show themed “The Healing Power of Art.”

The Bancroft & Dillon Gallery awarded Pankey Second Prize for her pen-and-ink work titled “After All This Pondering I Get Such a Headache." Like an illustration for a bizarre text on cognitive disorders, Pankey’s humorous, detailed ink drawing shows a head from above, open at the top and crammed with diverse items. The work was part of the juried National Drawing Show at the gallery’s South Shore Art Center.
