Author and adjunct faculty member Carolyn Boyd will give an upcoming lecture at Texas State University-San Marcos, Tuesday, Nov. 11, 7-8:30 p.m. at Centennial Hall.
The lecture, "Drawing from the Past: Rock Art of the Lower Pecos" is a study of the murals and art work left behind by peoples who lived in and traveled through regions of southwest Texas and northern Mexico thousands of years ago. Boyd studies and discusses the messages, communications and meaning left behind in these prehistoric paintings on the canyon walls and cliff overhangs of the Lower Pecos region.
Boyd is an archeologist, earning her Ph.D. from Texas A&M and executive director of the SHUMLA school, a non-profit organization studying the human use of materials, land and art. Her book, Rock Art of the Lower Pecos, was published in November 2003. Boyd is adjunct faculty at Texas State and teaches the Field Methods in Rock Art minimester summer course.
