University to test emergency siren warning system
Texas State University-San Marcos will conduct a test of the Thor Guard emergency siren warning system on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at noon.
The Thor Guard system is triggered when conditions exist that can produce dangerous lightning strikes in the vicinity of the Texas State campus. It consists of siren blasts and flashing strobe lights that warn those out of doors to seek indoor shelter immediately.
Although the system is specifically designed to predict hazardous lightning conditions, it may be activated manually in the event of other potential dangers, such as tornado warnings or police emergencies.
Activation of the system on Oct. 7 is only a test. Individuals are not required to seek shelter during the test.
