The Opening Door Dance Theatre will present its annual Alumni Gala October 23-24 at 7:30 pm in Evans Auditorium at Texas State University-San Marcos.
Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for students (cash only). The box office opens at 6 p.m. on performance days. Parking will be available at the Pleasant Street Parking Garage.
Sponsored by the Department of Theatre and Dance, the Alumni Gala features choreography and performances by Texas State University alumnae and faculty such as Kaysie Seitz Brown, Ana Baer Carrillo, Caroline Sutton Clark, Tammy Fife, Krystal Hudgins, Michelle Nance, Darryl Pilate, LeAnne Smith and Pat Stone.
Under a Comanche Moon, choreographed by Kaysie Seitz Brown and danced by Alison Martinez is inspired by the story of a vision quest undertaken by a young Native American boy. The music and dance were a collaboration piece between Brown and Richard Hall, composer.
For the first time ever at Opening Door Dance Theatre, Ana Baer Carrillo will presenttwo Dance Video films: Sobre Mesa, 2007, and Reminiscence, 2007.
The Opening Door Dance Theatre started in 1984 when a group of students wanted more professional performing opportunities. Sandy Rodriguez, Karen Moore (Earl), and LeAnne Smith, Artistic Director collaborated with the students and created a venue for faculty, guest artists, and advanced students to have the opportunity to work in a professional setting.
The Opening Door Dance Theatre is approaching its 25th anniversary next year, thanks to the continued support of the San Marcos community, Texas State and Friends of Fine Arts.
