The University Bookstore at Texas State University-San Marcos has given $45,000 to the Associated Student Government scholarship fund thus far in the 2008-09 school year. Of that total, $15,000 went to ASG general scholarships and $30,000 was given in book scholarships to 100 students.
In just the first two years of this scholarship’s existence, University Bookstore has provided $73,500 to Texas State students. Auxiliary Services anticipates the 2009/2010 contribution to push the three-year total above the $100,000 mark.
For the 2007-08 school year, the bookstore was able to donate $17,400 to the ASG scholarship fund. An additional $11,100 was given to students in the form of 37 $300 book scholarships to be used in the bookstore for a combined total of $28,500 in pay back to the university community.
In addition to the ASG scholarships, the Bookstore donates funds and goods to Bobcat Athletics, the Alumni Association, the Office of Admissions, Campus Recreation and just about every other department and organization on campus. It is a benefit that every student, faculty member and staff member can realize. The more the community shops at University Bookstore, the more the store is able to give back to the community.
