Austin Police Chief to discuss ‘Civic Responsibility in Age of Conflict’

Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo will address Texas State University-San Marcos students Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 2:30 p.m. as part of the Common Experience program.Th
Acevedo will speak on “Civic Responsibility in an Age of Conflict.” The talk will be in the LBJ Student Center on campus, room 3-14.1. The event is free and open to the public.
As the eighth police chief in the history of the Austin Police Department and the first Hispanic to hold the office, Acevedo works with the commitment to building strong relationships between the police department and the community it serves. He has more than two decades of experience in law enforcement since beginning his career with the California Highway Patrol and now leads a department with more than 2,000 sworn officers and civilian personnel.
Chief Howard Williams from the San Marcos Police Department along with Captains Paul Chapa and Rickey Lattie of the University Police Department will also be on hand to answer questions with Acevedo after the presentation.
This event is being sponsored by the Texas State Criminal Justice Department, Lambda Alpha Epsilon and the Hispanic Policy Network.
