Mayor proclaims "Strutters Day" in San Marcos
Mayor Susan Narvaiz proclaimed Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, “Meet the Strutters Day” in San Marcos, at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting as the internationally acclaimed Texas State Strutters looked on. Adding that the Strutters have served as ambassadors for the city and the university, and brought recognition to San Marcos for nearly 50 years, Narvaiz thanked them by presenting the Strutters with the Key to the City.
The 79-member Texas State University precision dance team, under the direction of Susan Angell-Gonzalez, will host a fundraiser silent auction, show and reception on Saturday, Sept 20, at 7 p.m. at Strahan Coliseum. Among the items donated for the silent auction are a week-long stay at a resort in Durango, Col.; a week-long stay at Playa del Carmen; golf packages; NBA Spurs tickets; NBA Mavericks tickets; white water sports packages; tubing packages; collector books; jewelry; paintings; gift certificates; electronics; a Texas State quilt and more. Funds raised will help to defray the Strutters’ expenses for their spring trip to Chile.
The Texas State Strutters recently represented Texas State University and the City of San Marcos in the NBC network television program, “America’s Got Talent,” out-performing hundreds of acts to reach the live semifinal round of competition.
