Chartwells-Texas State, the food service contractor at Texas State University-San Marcos, has been named “Regional Account of the Year” for 2008 by the higher education division of Chartwells.

The award ceremony was held recently in Jacksonville, Fla., at the company’s annual “Be A Star” banquet. The Texas State team was selected for the honor over several other universities, including the University of Arkansas, Louisiana State University, Miami University and the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.

Chartwells at Texas State is the only account to have received the annual award three times, having won previously in 2001 and 2003.

During the past year, Chartwells opened the first Stubb’s Restaurant outside of Austin as well as the first on a college campus, in Texas State’s Jones Food Court. It also opened Chillin’ ‘N’ Grillin,’ a new restaurant inspired by suggestions from 2007-08 Texas State Associated Student Government Vice President Alexis Dabney.

Staying on top of trends and apace with advancing technologies, Chartwells at Texas State also became the first to partner with Akoo, bringing an interactive system to dining locations allowing students to request their favorite videos and receive dining coupons and updates via their cell phones.

Chartwells is a diverse group of food and nutrition specialists dedicated to providing the academic community with fun and healthy dining options.
