The Department of Theatre and Dance at Texas State University-San Marcos presents Bertolt Brecht’s epic play The Caucasian Chalk Circle April 8-13.
Directed by Michael Costello, performances will be April 8-12 at 7:30 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee performance April 13 on the Main Stage of the Texas State Theatre Center on campus.
The Caucasian Chalk Circle tells the story of the kitchen maid, Grusha, who risks life and limb to protect an abandoned child of nobility, and the drunken, irreverent judge, Azdak, who uses the ancient Chinese test of the chalk circle to determine her worthiness to keep to the child when the biological mother returns.
Costello directs 14 actors in the show, who perform more than 60 characters in Brecht’s widely-produced classic.
Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for students with a Texas State ID. Tickets can be purchased at the University Box Office in the Theatre Center, located at the corner of Moon Street and University Drive and available by phone at (512) 245-2204.
