Innovative tuba performer Brian Wolff will be the featured guest artist at Texas State University-San Marcos for a March 5 concert.
Wolff, presented by the School of Music, will appear in concert at 8 p.m. in the Music Building Recital Hall on the Texas State campus.
Wolff, an Austin music scene veteran, previously performed in the bands Drums & Tuba and Hominy Bob. Wolff has been planning this project for a number of years, but it has only recently come to fruition as a complete entity unto itself.
“I've spent a significant chunk of time hiding in my apartment and working on being able to pull this solo act off live. The concept I'm working with is that all the sounds are generated by, with, and through the tuba itself with the help of numerous guitar pedals and other sundry looping devices,” Wolff said. “Singing is through the tuba. Percussion is banging on the tuba. I play the tuba and beat box through it as well. You get the picture. And by the way, there's no need to be afraid. It's not nearly as scary as it sounds.”
Admission to the concert is $2 for general admission and $1 with a Texas State ID. For additional information, contact the School of Music office at (512) 245-2651 for more info.
