Student Volunteer Connection lights up Giving Tree fundraiser

Christmas morning just wouldn’t be the same without the joyful laughter of children as they excitedly tear through their mounds of gifts.

Unfortunately, many abused, neglected and disadvantaged children will not find shiny wrapped packages under their Christmas trees this year. 

The Texas State University-San Marcos Student Volunteer Connection (SVC), partnered with the Texas State Multicultural Greek Council, Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center and the Greater San Marcos Youth Council, strive to make this holiday season a little brighter for children in need by collecting Giving Tree gift donations.   

Located in the LBJ Student Center, the Giving Tree is decorated with ornaments, each containing the child’s name, age and a gift suggestion. 

SVC Communications Coordinator Kasey Aldrich, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, said she encourages students to celebrate the season of giving by helping out those who are less fortunate.   From Barbie dolls to chemistry sets, she said all gift suggestions do not exceed $25. 

“It’s always good to donate time, money and effort to someone in need – especially during the holiday season,” said Aldrich, a Texas State mass communications junior.  “By donating a gift, you can help out children, who would otherwise not receive any gifts this Christmas.” 

Giving Tree participants can register their ornaments at the information desk, located on the second floor of the LBJ Student Center, or at the SVC office, located on the fourth floor of the LBJ Student Center. Dec. 7 is the last day to donate.
