The Dream for Darfur Olympic Torch, a poweful symbol of peace and hope
for millions of displaced genocide victims, will blaze through the Texas State campus on Nov. 28 at 12:15 p.m., and the campus community is asked to help make the visit a success. STAND at Texas State need is inviting all students, faculty and staff to contribute to the cause. Donation tables will be set up from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Mall area between Alkek Library and the LBJ Student Center.
Following at 6 p.m. will be a showing "The Devil Came on Horseback," a documentary about the genocide in Darfur. The film will be shown in Centennial Hall Teaching Theater, to be followed by a reception in Lampases 407A.
The torch is intended to deter China, the 2008 host of the Summer Olympic Games, from supporting the genocide in Darfur. More than 28 states in the U.S. and seven countries around the world will host the torch until it reaches China's doorstep in December.
