Quickstep and Jamcrackers bring their unique folk sounds to Texas State University-San Marcos Friday, Oct. 19, for “Wailin’ on Water: From Rain to Rivers to Raging Seas, Songs and Tunes About Water.”

The performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Evans Auditorium. The show is part of the Jerry and Cathy Supple Folk Music Series, co-sponsored by Century Tel and SACA.

John Kirk and Trish Miller’s duet, known as Quickstep, are musicians and dancers known for their quick pickin’ fiddle tunes and flowing ballads with river themes.  Jamcrackers is comprised of Peggy Lynn, Dan Berggren and Dan Duggan.  With their traditional folk roots and original songs, they’ve teamed up as a trio with unique arrangements and striking harmonies.  Inspiration for their music comes from the Adirondack Mountains near upstate New York, a place they like to call home.

Songs about Texas as well as an audience favorite, “Shenandoah,” will be featured. Original tunes, songs and Celtic and American traditional selections will create a splash that you won’t want to miss. The performance is also a part of this year’s Common Experience theme: The Water Planet: A River Runs Through Us.  The Common Experience is a year-long initiative of Texas State University – San Marcos that enhances student life intellectually on campus as well as creates a sense of community.  For more information about Common Experience, visit www.txstate.edu/commonexperience/.

Texas State’s outstanding array of music, dance, and theatre productions is complemented through the Encore Series with performances by nationally and internationally renowned artists.  The Supple Folk Music series honors the unique American art form of folk music and pays tribute to the late Jerry Supple and his wife Cathy who brought their love of this genre to Texas State University.

Tickets prices are $15 for the general public and $5 for students, with limited seating. Advance tickets can be purchased online at www.encoreseries.txstate.edu or at the door starting at 5 p.m. the day of the show. For further information, contact the Events Coordinator at (512) 245-3501.
