Student Volunteer Connection invites students to make a difference

Texas State students, faculty and staff will have the chance to browse booths and meet with local agencies, schools, non-profit organizations and other community members at the Texas State Volunteer Fair Tuesday, September 18 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the LBJ Student Center Ballroom.

The event will feature door prizes, a disc jockey and free popcorn, as well as dozens of groups who have local volunteer opportunities.

Co-sponsored by the Student Volunteer Connection and the Office of Community Relations, this event promotes volunteer opportunities available to all Texas State students who wish to make a difference in their “temporary” home. 

“This is a great way for student to meet the directors of non-profit agencies in San Marcos and learn how to give back to the community,” said Josh Naughton, graduate research assistant of the Student Volunteer Connection.

Agencies are invited to a breakfast prior to the Volunteer Fair.  Presentations on how to recruit Texas State volunteers will be made.

“Many students want to give back to the community but don’t know how,” said Kim Porterfield, director of the Office of Community Relations.  “By providing agencies with tools to recruit, we can help students be better informed of the needs of the community.”

This annual event allows the Texas State community to network and build lasting relationships within the San Marcos community.
