Study Abroad Fair features opportunities for students

The Office of Study Abroad Programs at Texas State University-San Marcos will be holding its biennial Study Abroad Fair Thursday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Academic Service Building breezeway.

Approximately 36 national organizations will be featured during presenting information to students about countries and programs around the world.

Last year nearly 400 Texas State students participated in a study abroad program and Julie Harborth, administrative assistant for Study Abroad, feels more students should participate in opportunities such as these.

“It gives a different atmosphere to travel and learn about different cultures,” said Harborth. “When they (study abroad students) come back they end up wanting to move there. They love it. They’ve become more cultured, they’ve gotten to travel and try different things and they’ve met new people.”

Students wishing to study abroad should stop by the fair and pick up an application. There is an application fee. Students should be prepared to pay anywhere from $2,500 to $4,800 per program if accepted.

“There’s a lot of students on campus that want to study abroad, this just tells them how,” said Harborth.
