Joe Ely and Reckless Kelly will headline the 4th Annual Stars of Texas Music Legacy concert Oct. 9 at Texas State University-San Marcos.

The performance will begin at 8 p.m. in the outdoor Glade Theatre. The concert is free and open to the general public.

Presented by SACA, the College of Fine Arts and Communication and the Center for Texas Music History, the Stars of Texas Music Legacy Series showcases a young musical group who reflects the influence of a legendary Texas musician. The 2007 concert shines the spotlight on Joe Ely, the famed honky tonk/country singer who released his first album in 1977. Since then, he has released 26 albums and counting, along the way earning a reputation as a powerful live performer. His influence has extended far beyond the boundaries of country, and he has worked with such artists as The Clash, Lyle Lovett, James McMurtry and Bruce Springsteen.

Opening the show will be Reckless Kelly, which has won Austin Music Awards for “Best New Band” and “Best Roots Rock Band.” They were picked by Billboard as one of the prominent up-and-coming Austin bands. Reckless Kelly’s music is full of smooth harmony vocals, acoustic guitars, mandolins, crunchy electrics and lyrics that reflect life, loss and trouble.
