Mathematics for English Language Learners conference

Texas State University-San Marcos will host the Third Annual Mathematics for English Language Learners Conference July 6-7 at the LBJ Student Center on campus.

More than 400 educators from across the state and Mexico have already registered for the MELL conference, which will focus on giving teachers practical, real-world tools and strategies to help them teach mathematics in the classroom. Sample topics include “Mathematics in Nature,” “Awake Your Students’ Interest, So You Can Teach Math,” “A Fraction of Mexican Games” and “Using Algebra to Build Your Dream Home.” The MELL conference will feature 15 different concurrent sessions, with most sessions presented twice.

Registration is required for participation in all conference activities. Full registration fee includes access to all workshops, general sessions and meals. The registration fee is $80 per participant and includes breakfast, lunch and the CD of conference presentations.

The Texas State University System Mathematics for English Language Learners (TSUS MELL) project is a multiyear effort developing instructional resources designed to increase the effectiveness of mathematics instruction for English Language Learning students in K-12 schools. The project is a partnership between the Texas State University System, its component universities and the Texas Education Agency.
