Biedermann sworn in as Texas HIMA president

Sue Biedermann, chair of the Health Information Management program at Texas State University-San Marcos, was sworn in as president at the annual Texas Health Information Management Association meeting held in San Antonio in June.

Approximately 4,400 professionals from around the state attended the conference.

“I like working with such a great group of dedicated professionals, getting to meet so many different people, having the opportunity to see past graduates and bringing visibility to the Texas State HIM degree program,” Biedermann said.

She will be flown to Philadelphia in October for the delegates meeting as well as the American Health Information Management Association's national convention where she will have the opportunity to attend sessions with speakers and hear new developments for the profession.

“Just being a part of the discussion and decision making for the HIM profession is very special,” Biedermann said. “Meeting others in leadership positions from other states and with the national association is very rewarding as well.”

Originally from Oklahoma, Biedermann has a master’s degree in healthcare administration. She will begin her 28th year at Texas State this fall and currently lives in New Braunfels with her husband and daughter.

The Health Information Management Association is a professional association for healthcare industry members. It promotes issues that will make an impact on the management and use of health information. Educational programs and services are offered through the association in order to advance members and others who work with health information.

As the Texas head Biedermann will conduct similar activities and travel across the country for AHIMA meetings where she will serve as a delegate. The AHIMA delegates deal with by-laws and issues facing the profession. Though she has served as delegate twice before, she will now serve as the state’s official representative.
