Texas State prepares for spring commencement ceremonies

Brian McCoy, chief executive officer and chairman of the board of McCoy’s Building Supply, will be the keynote speaker at one of four commencement ceremonies scheduled at Texas State University-San Marcos on May 11 and 12.

McCoy will deliver the commencement address at a ceremony scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 12, in Strahan Coliseum on the Texas State campus. Degree candidates from the College of Applied Arts and the College of Fine Arts and Communication will attend the Saturday morning ceremony.

McCoy has been actively involved with his family’s business since he was 17. He has worked for the company as lumber yard worker, truck driver, floor salesman, assistant store manager, store manager, merchandise manager, vice president and co-president, before attaining his current title.

McCoy’s Building Supply operates 87 stores in five states, with annual sales exceeding $550 million. McCoy is also a partner in McCoy Remme Ranches, a cow-calf operation with land holdings in far West Texas.

The McCoy College of Business Administration at Texas State is named in honor of his parents, Emmett and Miriam McCoy.

Degree candidates from the College of Education and the College of Health professions will attend a ceremony at 2 p.m. Friday, May 11, in Strahan Coliseum.

Degree candidates from the College of Liberal Arts will attend a ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday, May 11, in Strahan Coliseum.

Degree candidates from the McCoy College of Business Administration and the College of Science will attend a ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, in Strahan Coliseum.

Texas State President Denise M. Trauth will deliver remarks at both Friday ceremonies as well as the Saturday afternoon ceremony.

A total of 2,905 Texas State students are candidates for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees this spring.
