"Welcome to the Sandbox" examines complexities of Iraq war

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Texas State University-San Marcos will play host to a production of Welcome to the Sandbox by graduate student an Iraq war veteran Adam Musil.

Directed by Debbie Swann, performances will be March 30-31 at 7:30 p.m. and April 1 at 2 p.m. in room 209 of the Theatre Center on campus. Admission is free.

For Lieutenant Colonel Stackhouse, Sergeant First Class Jones and their Iraqi counterpart Ali life at a Ministry of Defense outpost in Baghdad is good. The missions are not difficult and they are not constrained by the rules of soldiers closer to the “flagpole.”  When idealistic young Lieutenant Russ Manning arrives with a determination to “make a difference,” however, the ebb and flow of the base is disrupted. Tensions rise and alliances outside and inside the base are challenged. This sets in motion a chain of events that none of the men had bargained for.
