C.S. Lewis scholar Walter Hooper to speak at Texas State

The world’s foremost C.S. Lewis scholar, Walter Hooper, will present a lecture titled “The Legacy of C. S. Lewis: Master Communicator” at Texas State University-San Marcos at 7 p.m. March 27.
The lecture, sponsored by the Department of Communication Studies and the Mitte Honors Program, will be presented in Centennial Hall room 157 and is free and open to the public.
C. S. Lewis is the author of such popular books as The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe from the Chronicles of Narnia series, The Screwtape Letters and Mere Christianity, as well as more than two dozen other works including novels, science fiction, philosophy, literary criticism and literature.
Hooper, who now lives in Oxford, England, and had extensive written correspondence with Lewis, became Lewis’s assistant in 1963 shortly before Lewis’s death. Hooper is the literary executor of Lewis’s work and has written or edited numerous books about C.S. Lewis including the award-winning C. S. Lewis: A Companion and Guide, a definitive biography of Lewis, and a three-volume collection of the Lewis’s letters. During his talk Hooper will discuss his personal memories of Lewis as well as Lewis’s legacy as a communicator.
“This is a rare opportunity to hear from a world-class C. S. Lewis scholar who knew Lewis personally, ” said Department of Communication Studies Chair Steven Beebe, who teaches a course on C.S. Lewis from a communication perspective. “For any Lewis enthusiast this is an event not to be missed.”
