Biochemistry students land awards for Washington conference

Seven biochemistry students at Texas State University-San Marcos received travel awards from the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and from the Federation for American Societies for Experimental Biology, which will fund their trip to an international forum in Washington D.C. on April 27.

The ASBMB recipients are Mikki Boswell of San Saba, Sandra Becerra of San Antonio, Cory Holland of Karnes and Jennifer Summers of Albuquerque.  The FASEB recipients are Kacie Waiters of San Antonio, Candice Gonzales of Corpus Christi and Valerie Valencia of San Antonio.  Each student will present their research findings in Washington D.C. The interdisciplinary conference is set to provide a forum for the discussion of the latest research in most areas of biochemistry or medical related research. It features plenary and award lectures, symposia, oral and poster sessions, career services and exhibits of scientific equipment, supplies and publications.

The Texas State Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, College of Science and the Graduate College provided additional funds.
