Award-winning author and endowed Mitte chair in creative writing Denis Johnson will present three reading discussions and book signings Feb. 15, March 20 and April 19, all at 3:30 p.m. at Texas State University-San Marcos.
The Southwestern Writers Collection will host the free events on the seventh floor of the Alkek Library on campus.
The New York Times book review deemed Johnson's Jesus' Son as one of the top 25 works of fiction written in the last 25 years, listing it high among other critical praise given by the Times for Johnson's unpredictable works.
"Once Johnson gets his hooks into you--it takes about two sentences--it's not so easy to maintain your bemusement, and pretty much impossible to stop reading, severely as he can try your patience," said New York Times book reviewer David Gates.
The events are sponsored by the Department of English, the Roy F. and Joann Cole Mitte Foundation and the Southwestern Writers Collection.
