Texas State announces new scholarship opportunities

SAN MARCOS —Texas State University-San Marcos has announced several new scholarship programs designed to help the university compete for the nation’s best students.
Five new scholarship programs will be offered in two categories – National Scholarships and Assured Scholarships.
The National Scholarship Program consists of the National Merit Scholarship, the National Achievement Scholarship and the National Hispanic Scholarship. Each is an award of $40,000 over four years ($10,000 per academic year).
The National Merit Scholarship is offered to students who are National Merit finalists. The National Achievement Scholarship is offered to students who are National Achievement finalists and the National Hispanic scholarship is available to students who are designated National Hispanic Scholars.
The Assured Scholarship Program consists of the President’s Honor Scholarship and the Texas State Achievement Scholarship.
The President’s Honor Scholarship is valued at $16,000 over four years ($4,000 per academic year). To qualify, a student must have earned a minimum SAT/ACT score of 1400/31 and either be in the top 15 percent of his or her high school graduating class or the recipient of an International Baccalaureate Diploma.
The Texas State Achievement Scholarship is an award of $10,000 over four years ($2,500 per year). To be eligible for this award, a student must earn a minimum SAT/ACT score of 1300-1390/29-30 and be either in the top 15 percent of his or her high school graduating class or the recipient of an International Baccalaureate Diploma.
Texas State also awards a number of other prestigious scholarships under its Competitive Scholarship Program. These include:
* The Mitte Laureate Scholarship
* The Terry Foundation Scholarship
* The McCoy Foundation Scholarship of Excellence and the McCoy Foundation
Scholarship of Distinction
* The Roy F. and Joann Cole Mitte Foundation Scholarship
* The University Scholars awards
* The Lone Star Scholarship
* The LBJ Achievement Scholarship
* The Mitte Honors Program Scholarship
Texas State President Denise Trauth said, “These scholarships will help make Texas State even more competitive for high ability students. In the near future, we also will augment our need-based scholarship program to further ensure that talented students can afford to continue their studies at Texas State.”
