‘Frame 312’ brings Kennedy drama on stage at Texas State

SAN MARCOS —The intrigue and drama that shadows the Kennedy assassination will be present at Texas State University-San Marcos in the play “Frame 312,” from Oct. 19-21 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 22 at 2 p.m., at the university’s Studio Theatre, Theatre Center, presented by the Department of Theatre and Dance.
“Frame 312,” by Keith Reddin, is an episodic drama that begins in 1993 and shifts to 1963, the year of the Kennedy assassination in Dallas. Lynette, its protagonist, decides to confess a secret she has kept for 30 years to her family, daughter Stephanie, son Tom and his wife Marie. While working for Life magazine, Lynette saw the unedited version of the Zapruder film, which depicts the assassination and is different from the film typically shown to Americans. This event turns the family’s life upside down and causes its decay.
Amanda Gass, director, says the audience will relate to the play because it applies to human reaction in times of crisis.
“Because it deals with the Kennedy assassination, it parallels common American citizens in the face of tragedy,” says Gass. “The Kennedy assassination was very much like any other tragedy, 9/11 or the Oklahoma City bombing. It deals with how tragedy affects families in this country.”
