Opening Door Dance Theatre performs Reminisce
Date of Release: 02/14/2006
SAN MARCOS—“Reminisce: A Choreographic Eulogy Honoring Karen Earl” will alight for two performances Feb. 16-17 at 7:30 p.m. in Evans Auditorium at Texas State University-San Marcos.
Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for students, with tickets available at the door. Parking is available at the Pleasant Street Parking Garage. All proceeds benefit the Karen Earl Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Sponsored by the Department of Theatre and Dance, “Reminisce: A Choreographic Eulogy” features work by the students of the Orchesis Dance Company at Texas State. The first half of the concert includes choreography by the student officers of Orchesis as well as two dances choreographed by Tammy Fife. The first, ‘Reminisce,’ was created around photographs in the office shared by Fife and Earl. The second dance is ‘Eternal Spirit,’ which originated in the beautiful spirit of Earl; it also represents images of her present spirit.
The second half of the concert showcases Earl’s choreography. The faculty and students have worked to recreate three special dances. ‘Sacred Passage’ is danced by the faculty; ‘Cellular Phonatic’ was Earl’ss humorous view of how we have become dependent on cell phones; and ‘Ancient Echos’ was probably Earl’s favorite piece of choreography.
This concert is part of Fife’s MFA Thesis. The purpose of the MFA project is to share a process of recovery from grief through the creation of a choreographic eulogy.
