David Wiley elected to head American School Health Association

SAN MARCOS— David C. Wiley, professor of health education in the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation at Texas State University-San Marcos, has been elected president-elect of the American School Health Association.

Wiley, an ASHA member for 18 years, will serve a two-year term as president-elect and a two-year term as president beginning in Oct. 2007. Wiley has served the association as a member of the board of directors and held numerous committee appointments. He has been a fellow of the association for four years and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award in 1999. He is the past-president of the Texas School Health Association and a former school board trustee for Hays CISD in Kyle.

The American School Health Association, publisher of the Journal of School Health, unites the many professionals working in schools who are committed to safeguarding the health of school-aged children. The ASHA mission is to protect and promote the health and well-being of children and youth through coordinated school health programs as a foundation for school success.
