Texas State plans Veterans Day observance
SAN MARCOS—Those who served their country will be honored by Texas State University-San Marcos with a special ceremony and observance on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
At 10:47 a.m., a color guard formed from the Texas State Army ROTC Battalion and the Texas State Air Force ROTC Squadron will march through the Quad in the heart of campus, posting the colors before the landmark Huntington "Fighting Stallions" statue.
The featured speaker is Gregory Snodgrass, a former military intelligence officer during Vietnam. During his service, Snodgrass was awarded the Bronze Star and the Air Medal with one oak leaf cluster while flying with his team in reconnaissance missions over the DMZ. Snodgrass will be discussing this year's Common Experience theme of "Courage" and will introduce a student whose husband is currently serving in Iraq.
Other speakers include Texas State President Denise Trauth, Associated Student Government President Jordan Anderson, State Representative Patrick Rose and a senior staff member from Senator John Cornyn's office. Additional highlights include patriotic performances from the Bobcat Marching Band.
